Drone Photography Guide for Stunning Results

A good aerial shot starts on the ground: choosing the right drone, knowing the rules where you fly, and planning the light.
Choosing a camera drone
Compare sensor size, video resolution and frame rate, gimbal stability, flight time, transmission range and obstacle sensing. Weight also matters, because it can change which rules apply to you.
Know the local rules
Drone regulations differ by country. Many places require registration, restrict flying near airports, people or events, and set height limits. Check the rules for your location before every trip.
Camera settings that work
- Shoot RAW photos for more editing latitude.
- Use ND filters to keep a natural motion blur in video.
- Lock exposure and white balance for consistent footage.
- Use a flat or log profile only if you plan to colour grade.
Planning the shot
Early morning and late afternoon light adds depth and texture. Scout the location on a map, plan a simple, smooth flight path, and keep a safe battery margin for the return.
